Preparing the Ground for a Terrace on Riser Pedestals
Preparing the ground for a terrace on pedestals
Implementing a terrace on pedestals is simple and quick. However, it requires proper ground preparation beforehand.
After marking the location of the future terrace, you have two options:
Creating the terrace on raw ground
- Ensure the area is clean and the ground is stabilized.
- Excavate the soil of its loose topsoil to about 15 cm.
- If there is a slight slope (up to 5%), it is not necessary to correct the level. Use the self-leveling pedestal to compensate for this slope and achieve a flat terrace.
- Lay down a geotextile.
- Create a draining foundation layer composed of crushed stone 30/60 or 40/80.
- Compact using a vibrating plate.
Creating the terrace on a concrete slab
- Check the available heights at the thresholds. Allow for a minimum of 3 cm.
- If the slab has a slope, use the self-leveling pedestal to compensate for it up to 5%. Similarly, if the slab has roughness.
Once the ground preparation is complete, you can start your terrace construction work.
